The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine thinks the resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe encourages legal and political reforms in Ukraine, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in the statement.
“The criticisms made in the resolution aim to foster implementation of legal and political reforms in Ukraine,” the statement said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses confidence that Ukraine will be able to meet all the commitments taken to the Council of Europe relatively soon.
“There is no doubt that in the foreseeable future Ukraine will fulfill its commitments to the Council of Europe,” the statement said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes the adoption of the resolution was preceded by the thorough discussion that showed the willingness of the European politicians to understand the specific of democratic processes in Ukraine.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on January 26 recommended that Ukraine drop the charges of abuse of power and abuse of office against former senior government officials and allow them to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections. The PACE expressed readiness to use sanctions against Ukraine if the latter failed to be in line with the PACE recommendations on the criminal cases against former high-ranking officials.
